Gifted Holistic Health Employee Treatment Programs

Treatment Programs
"Workers who are stressed are more likely to experience repetitive strain injury (RSI)” according to the latest research reported in the British Medical Journal.
What are Treatment programs?
The treatment programs consist of 4-6 hours of treatments taken over three weeks, ensuring the individual is able to remain in work or return to work, (recover) more quickly.
Alternatively, the treatment programs are 3 hours of treatments taken within one or two weeks.
The therapist assesses the client throughout the treatments and is able to recommend a continued program that may extend to a further 2 or 3 treatments. The Employer can offer to pay a portion towards the additional treatments, pay for the whole treatment program or the employee can pay for the additional treatments.
Due to the complexity of stress and related conditions that flare up because of chronic stress, it is important and necessary to treat the individual as early as possible, thereby reducing symptoms quickly and keeping the employee in work. This reduces the potential risk of accident, injury, or the onset of physiological conditions such as headaches, digestive disorders, diabetes 2, etc. and Psychological conditions such as anxiety panic attacks, elevated blood pressure that may lead to stroke and heart conditions, nervous breakdowns, and mental health disorders. Early treatment or intervention aids the employer to retain the employee in the workplace, in a healthier more productive state, saving money on absenteeism, insurance premium rises, and personal injury claims.
How the treatment program works.
‘Gifted Holistic health’ provide a ‘Musculoskeletal Injury Management System’ (MIMS), a Reduce Symptoms of Stress and Absenteeism System (RSSAS), and Enhance Health and Wellness Programmes (EHWP).
Working in partnership with Gifted provides your company with access to a national network of 3000+ complementary health practitioners. This partnership ensures prompt treatment of injuries, stress related conditions, and /or other relevant health conditions with each client / employee being seen by a therapist within 24-48 hours.
An initial assessment by a registered physical / complementary health therapist is conducted, then with the employees consent, a detailed report is sent to the company outlining details of the injury, illness, or health condition, the estimated number of treatments required and whether or not the employee is fit for normal duties, restricted duties or not fit. These reports aid the company in assisting the injured / stressed / ill person back to work. The scheme does not discriminate between injuries / illnesses that are work or leisure related as any musculoskeletal problem or stress related condition will benefit from early attention or risk lengthy periods of absence from work.
Option 1 The service targets those staff who have an early stage of new MSD injury, back complaint, or related stress disorders who will benefit from the treatment program. When staff sustain an MSD injury or report other sickness conditions they are referred to the OH Nurses who assess them and request a referral for the treatment program. Whether the injury or stressor / illness presented happened during leisure or work time is irrelevant as the effect of sickness absence or limited fitness will have the same effect on the organisation. Staff are offered an appointment and start the treatment within 24/48 hours. The service has extended opening hours, which include evenings Monday to Friday and Saturday’s, which is a very attractive option for staff who work shifts.
Option 2 If the employee has reported sick and has not retuned to work within 7 days, the HR department can offer the employee this service as an intervention program with the aim of getting in the employee back to work more quickly than would otherwise be the case. The service is implemented within 24 hrs of the service being contacted. Employee or Gifted representative can make the contact and arrange the appointment this is all part of the Gifted case management package.
Option 3 Maintaining Employee Productivity As soon as employee’s report a the onset of stress or stress related conditions such as MSD’s or an injury to the OC Dept or HR dept managers can refer the employee to Gifted who will assess the individual and implement the apropriate treatment program. The program will be started within 24hrs of the refreral to Gifted.
Following the treatment Following a course of treatment The Therapist will return a feedback form to Gifted who will in turn return a full report to the Employee and the OH or HR Manager detailing the outcome of the treatment including ; • Improvement in mobility, eg by 80%, • Personal exercise plan, Lifestyle plan and nutritional advice. • Number of treatments, referals if needed and adjustments to enable the OH department to help the individual to return to work safely or to adjust the workplace or task.
This form is copied to the relevant OH Nurse to assess the individual's fitness to work and recommend ergonomic, environmental or job adjustments in terms of tasks or hours in liaison and negotiation with Line Managers. Gifted will provide comprehensive feedback throught the treatment program of the client ( client consenting) to the specified department of the company, or EAP provider.
Why introduce Complementary health treatment programmmes?
1. For every £1 spent on a treatment programme the employer can expect a ROI of between £1.97 and £8.12 according to recent research findings carried out by the HSE
2. a case study In 2001 there were more than 400 treatment sessions arranged at British Polythene Industries (BPI)who employ 3,500 staff across 40 sites in the UK. . Each referral had an average of three treatments which cost £16000 in total. However, the benefits of more than 75% of staff remaining in work whilst undergoing therapy, a substantial reduction in civil compensation claims and lower than anticipated increase in Employers Liability Compulsory Insurance premiums saved the company £192,000. This works out as a saving of £12 for every £1 spent on the return to work scheme. The success of this initiative has met with continued support from senior management and trade unions.
This initiative has enabled BPI to reduce the costs of musculoskeletal injuries sustained by their staff at work or at home and also raised the profile of health and safety issues in general, contributing to a more positive health and safety culture. Andy Collinson, Group Health & Safety Manager says; “This rehabilitation scheme created the solutions we needed in terms of health and safety and occupational health. It was popular with the workforce and their representatives and it made excellent business sense.”
3. Occupational Health teams have observed that staff who had sustained MSD injuries are waiting up to 20 weeks for NHS physiotherapy treatment.
4. Acute injuries become chronic and individuals suffer pain, distress and often deformity.
5. Those staff who are injured but do manage to keep working are not able to function fully and need to reduce their duties/hours worked.
6. Stress leads to a multiple of Costs to the organisation are demonstrated in terms of loss of experienced staff, costs in overtime and agency staff to back fill posts, which reduce the quality of care.
7. Other effects related to increased workloads are stress and a higher risk of accidents.
8. Complementary health treatments are able to treat and manage an array of conditions effectively, without causing medical complications, as the treatments can be administered alongside orthodox medicines and treatments.
9. Complementary health treatments are particulary effective for stress and related conditions, as well as many auto –immune and Physiological, Emotional and Psycholigical complaints.
10. Complementary health treatments are cost effective, when compared to Physiotherapy costs they are generally 50% cheaper and can produce the same or better services are they deal with an extended range of conditions, and treat the individual in an holistic manner.
11. The practitioners are able to visit the client in their homes; workplace or the client can visit the practitoner at a studio or clinic in their locality. Saving the company and client money for travel and time taken to reach the therapist.
12. there are many clinical research studies that have found that complementary health is an effective treatment for many stress related conditions.( please ask for a list of research articles)
Health enhancement has long been recognized as a logical approach to reducing health care utilization, medical costs, morbidity, and mortality. It is reported that 50 percent of all medical problems and diseases are associated with modifiable health risk factors. The majority of these preventable diseases are caused by personal choice habits, such as smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol use, poor nutrition, failing to manage stress, not using seat belts, unsafe sex, illegal drugs, being sedentary, and other poor health habits. Correctable clinical entities, such as diabetes, depression, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, are sometimes ignored through personal choice, and therefore not controlled. This can lead to numerous catastrophic health problems.
